Owner Parts with His Pet Lion

pet-lion-05pet-lion-0627 -year-old Lucian Craita, from Romania, parted ways with his pet lion, Richie, after raising him in his backyard for over a year.
pet-lion-02pet-lion-03pet-lion-04
Lucian has always had always had a thing for lions and when he had the chance to buy one for a pet, from an animal market, he didn’t hesitate. Richie cost him just 1,000 euros and he never regretted spending the money. Over a year and a half of living together, Lucian and Richie developed a truly special relationship, so you can imagine the young man’s grief when he had to hand his pet lion over to the Vier Pfoten animal association.

The Romanian gave up his friend voluntarily, after realizing he couldn’t offer it the life it deserved. Now Richie will be taken to Lion’s Rock Lion Reservation, in South Africa, where he can be with his own kind. Because Richie spent so much time as a house pet, he will never be a real lion, but at least he’ll enjoy being free in the savanna.pet-lion-01

Spinach with Chickpeas Recipe

No response, Dec 11, 2009

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds spinach, baby
  • 3 tablespoon oil, olive, extra virgin
  • 1 medium onion(s), red, finely chopped
  • 5 clove(s) garlic, minced
  • 19 ounce(s) beans, garbanzo (chickpeas), rinsed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon thyme, dried
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon oregano, dried
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon cumin, ground
  • 1 teaspoon salt, Kosher
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika, hot
  • 1/2 cup(s) raisins, golden
  • 1/2 cup(s) broth, reduced-sodium chicken, or vegetable broth

Preparation

1. Rinse spinach and let drain in a colander. With water still clinging to it, place half the spinach in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Cook, tossing with tongs and adding the remaining spinach by the handful until all is added and wilted, 6 to 8 minutes. Drain in the colander. Let cool slightly, then coarsely chop.

2. Carefully wipe out the pan, then heat 1 tablespoon oil over medium heat.  Add onion and garlic and cook, stirring, until the onion is tender and lightly browned, 8 to 10 minutes.

3. Stir in chickpeas, thyme, oregano, cumin, salt and paprika.
4. Using a potato masher, mash some of the chickpeas, then cook, stirring, for 3 minutes.
5. Stir in raisins and broth, scraping up any browned bits. Add the chopped spinach and stir gently to combine.
6. Remove from the heat and let stand 10 minutes. Drizzle with the remaining 2 tablespoons oil just before serving.

Worlds-youngest-mother-01

Earlier this week, News of the World broke a story about an 11-year-old schoolgirl in Bulgaria named Kordeza Zhelyazkova who gave birth to a baby girl on her wedding day.

Her husband, 19-year-old Jeliazko Dimitrov, met her in the playground of her Roma gypsy school in Bulgaria and rescued her from bullies. He said he believed she was 15 at the time and was never made aware of her real age.

He now faces up to six years in prison for having sex with a minor.
